What have “Build Me Up Buttercup” and a Japanese city got in common?


You may not have heard of the famous (!) group, The Foundations, but you will have heard their most successful hit. Their upbeat, feel-good track has lived on through generations and is still one of the most played songs on every wedding DJ’s set,and I’m sure it’ll be around for many more years to come.

Just last week the residents and workers of this bustling Japanese city were left shocked as they saw whopping 27 metre wide, 30 metre long and 15 metre deep sinkhole appear in front of their eyes. It started off as two small holes, which grew worse and merged into one, larger whole right across one of the main highway intersections! This gaping hole swallowed the road, taking traffic lights with it and even destroyed underground power cables.

Got me thinking about business and how businesses are at risk when they don’t have strong foundations in place. A couple of small mistakes can lead to massive shocks in business.
