Never Stop Running
On Sunday (20th March), comedian Eddie Izzard completed his amazing 700 mile Sports Relief challenge that saw him run 27 marathons in 27 days.
Faced with blistering heat and blisters on his feet, the 54-year-old finished the grueling feat under a giant statue of Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Izzard ran a marathon every single day except for one when he was forced to seek hospital treatment. Not one to fail though, he then completed TWO marathons on the final day to complete his aim of 27 in 27.
It’s incredible isn’t it, what we can do when we put our minds to it?
By the time he finished at the weekend, Eddie was a broken man.
He was blistered, bruised and battling heatstroke, exhaustion and dehydration. Yet, not once, did giving up cross his mind. He kept putting one foot in front of the other, driving himself forwards to complete his charity challenge.
And in doing so, Eddie has thus far raised over £1million for Sports Relief.
As business owners, it can often feel like you’re battling your own Herculean challenge.
You might not be running 700 miles in 27 days, but it can certainly feel like you’re embroiled in your own, on-going marathon.
And sometimes, the blisters get too much.
Your head, heart and feet feel like they’re giving up and stopping seems like the only option. But we don’t. We plough through, over coming those obstacles and continuing to put one foot in front of the other.
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going as they say.
Even when things feel impossible, it’s your ability to just keep running that sets you apart from the competition. When everyone else is giving up, you’re the one that’s still going.
And, to continue the sporting metaphor, it doesn’t matter how slow you go, ‘cause you’re still lapping everyone on the couch.
Have a great week (and long weekend),
